[su_spacer size=”20″] The Georgia men’s golf team recorded a 29-shot turnaround on Friday in the NCAA San Diego Regional to move up to the all-important fifth place.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Bulldogs followed up a 19-over 307 with a 10-under 278 to improve to fifth at 9-over 585. Following Saturday’s final round, the top five schools will advance to the NCAA Championships later this month in Bradenton, Fla.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Oklahoma is leading the San Diego Regional at 17-under 559. Arizona State is second at 5-over 581, Georgia Tech is third at 6-over 582 and East Tennessee State is fourth at 7-over 583. The Bulldogs are two strokes ahead of sixth-place Virginia (11-over 587).
[su_spacer size=”40″] Freshman Zach Healy paced the Bulldogs on Friday with a 5-under 67. Senior Mookie DeMoss was next at 3-under 69, followed by junior Lee McCoy at 2-under 70 and junior Sepp Straka at even-par 72. Sophomore Greyson Sigg had the non-counting score of 1-over 73. By comparison, Georgia’s best score on Thursday was 1-over 73.
[su_spacer size=”40″] DeMoss is seventh individually at 2-under 142, five shots in back of Arizona State’s Jon Rahm (7-under 137), and McCoy stands 11th at 1-under 144. Healy improved to 3-over 147, followed by Sigg at 10-over 154 and Straka at 12-over 156.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “As bad as we felt after the first round, that’s how good we felt after the second round,” Georgia coach Chris Haack said. “We challenged our guys to play the type of golf they’re capable of playing and they really responded. I knew our guys would not quit. We’ve got one more day to go and we can’t let up yet. We need another solid day to accomplish our goal of getting back to the NCAAs.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] The final round of the San Diego Regional will begin at 11:20 a.m. for the Bulldogs, who will be paired with Virginia and East Tennessee State. Live results can be found at GolfStat.com.
