The No. 9-ranked Georgia women’s golf team shot 305 in Sunday’s opening round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, leaving the Bulldogs in 10th place among an elite field of the nation’s top teams.

Georgia spent much of the day near the top of the leaderboard before a late-day struggle. The Bulldogs dropped a dozen strokes over the final four holes, falling from third to 10th in the process.

“It was weird. We played most of the day in rainy, windy and cold conditions, and we played really well,” head coach Josh Brewer said. “For 14 holes, we probably played as well as anyone in the field. When the conditions got better, I don’t know if we relaxed or what. We lost a little bit of focus and it really cost us. It’s a demanding golf course, which gives us plenty of chances to make up ground over the next two days.”

The tournament features nine of the top-13 teams in Golfweek’s preseason rankings.

Jillian Hollis paced the Bulldogs with an even-par 72, while Georgia also counted Rinko Mitsunaga’s 77 and a pair of 78s from Gabriela Coello and Bailey Tardy. Isabella Skinner’s 79 was UGA’s drop score.

The Bulldogs teed off from No. 10 on Sunday and Hollis opened with five pars. A birdie at No. 15 pushed her into red numbers before bogeys at No. 18, No. 2 and No. 3 put her at 2-over. Consecutive birdies at No. 4 and No. 5 returned Hollis to even on the day, and she completed her loop with a quartet of pars.

No. 8 Arkansas shot even-par 288 to grad the team lead, three shots better than No. 13 South Carolina. Rounding out the team leaderboard are No. 2 Stanford at 294; No. 1 UCLA at 295; No. 10 Southern Cal at 299; No. 11 Texas and No. 7 Furman both at 300, No. 12 Florida State at 301; Baylor at 302; the Bulldogs at 305; Minnesota at 307; and Miami at 308.

Southern Cal’s Robynn Ree and Stanford’s Mika Liu share the individual lead after shooting 4-under 68s.

For Georgia, Hollis is 11th, Mitsunaga is tied for 37th, Coello and Tardy are both tied for 43rd and Skinner is tied for 47th.

Play continues through Tuesday. The Bulldogs will be paired with Minnesota and Miami on Monday, teeing off 10:50-11:30 ET. CLICK HERE for live scoring, which will be available throughout the tournament.
