The University of Georgia gymnastics team will travel to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks on Friday, February 7 at 7 p.m. CT at the Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville. 

The GymDogs hold a 36-4-1 all-time record against the Razorbacks. Georgia defeated Arkansas three times last season- once in Athens, at Elevate the Stage, and again at the SEC Championship.

SABRINA VEGA NAMED SEC SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK

 

 

 

 

After a stellar performance in Georgia’s 197.425-196.350 win over Auburn, senior gymnast Sabrina Vega was named the SEC Specialist of the Week.

The Carmel, New York native took home the floor and beam event titles after solid routines. Vega was nearly perfect on floor, receiving a 10 from one judge, resulting in a 9.950 to match her season-best score. She moon-walked her way to her highest score of the season on beam with a 9.925.

Vega ranks sixth nationally on floor with an average of 9.931. With the final performance of the meet, she helped the GymDogs finish the fourth rotation with a 49.600 on floor, marking the highest score of all events in head coach Courtney Kupets Carter’s tenure.

HIGHEST EVENT SCORE OF THE COURTNEY KUPETS CARTER ERA

The GymDogs scored five 9.900s or better on floor last week against Auburn, posting a 49.600 in the final rotation.

This marks the highest score of any event under the direction of head coach Courtney Kupets Carter.

UNDERCLASSMEN PERFORM

Nineteen out of 24 total routines in a given meet are performed by underclassmen. The Georgia lineup is made up predominately of freshmen and sophomores with junior Marissa Oakley and senior Sabrina Vega performing a combined five routines.
