GYM: UGA Seeded #2 in Athens Regional

The eighth-ranked University of Georgia gymnastics team will be the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Athens Regional April 4-6 at Stegeman Coliseum, the NCAA announced Monday. 

The Regional begins on April 4 with the first round of competition featuring NC State and New Hampshire.  The winner will advance to the second round on April 5. 

Georgia will compete in the in the afternoon session of the second round with No. 9 Kentucky, Missouri, and Iowa State, beginning at 2 p.m.

The evening session, scheduled to start at 7 p.m. will include top-ranked Oklahoma, No. 16 California, Maryland, and the winner of the first round.  

The top two teams from each second round session will advance to the Regional Final at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 6.  The top two teams will then advance to the NCAA Championships April 19-20 in Fort Worth, Texas.  

In 35 all-time regional appearances, Georgia has won 24 regional championships and finished second 11 times.  A year ago, the GymDogs advanced through the Tuscaloosa Regional and finished seventh at the NCAA Championships.
