Georgia gymnastics head coach Courtney Kupets Carter has announced the addition of Jason Vonk as an assistant coach for the GymDogs.

“I’m very happy to be adding Jason to our coaching staff,” Kupets Carter said. “His experience and philosophy of coaching will be a tremendous asset to our program.  His dedication to the development of the student-athletes aligns with the goals of our staff as we continue the legacy of Georgia gymnastics. We are very excited to have him onboard.”

“Courtney’s commitment to her student-athletes and to a championship culture line up perfectly with my coaching philosophy,” Vonk said. “I’m excited to be a part of this passionate and experienced coaching staff. This team is on the rise and I look forward to start working with them. The University of Georgia is a special place. I’m drawn to its culture of excellence, enthusiastic team spirit, and love for sport.”

Vonk comes to Georgia after serving as the assistant coach at George Washington last season and previously spending six years at Yale.  As the primary coach of vault and uneven bars at Yale, he played a key role in developing the program by helping the team from the bottom of the conference to winning the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship in the spring of 2017 and achieving the highest team RQS in Yale’s 45-year history.

At Yale, Vonk also served as the recruiting coordinator and was in charge of the logistical operations of the gymnastics program. In addition to his coaching responsibilities at Yale, he also increased his involvement at USA Gymnastics as a Regional Clinician, where he had the opportunity to coach development and high tech camps and serve as a Coaches Congress Speaker.

Prior to his tenure at Yale, Vonk served as a coach in Colorado Springs at the Stars National Gymnastics Village. At Stars, he coached an elite gymnast onto the National Training Squad and to the U.S. Classic. He also had the opportunity to coach at the National Training Center and with USA Gymnastics National Staff.

Vonk graduated from Calvin College in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science with a minor in physical education.
