The No. 11 Georgia gymnastics team defeated No. 1 Florida in a come-from-behind win on Friday night, 196.400–196.350, in front of 10,224 at Stegeman Coliseum.

The Gymdogs tied or bettered five career highs on floor, including three consecutive 9.95s from Brittany Rogers, Gigi Marino and Mary Beth Box, to knock off the top-ranked Gators.

Trailing after three rotations, Georgia posted a season-best score of 49.650 on floor to seal the win and improve to 3-3 on the year (3-1 SEC). The Gators dropped their first meet of the season, falling to 4-1 with a 2-1 mark in the conference.

“This win is a tremendous confidence booster,” Georgia head coach Danna Durante said. “It just goes to show you the meet is never over. You never take yourself out of it. You have times when you struggle, no question, but it’s how you react to that. Are you going to bounce back or are you going to let it keep you down? That’s what this team is made of. This team is capable of anything. I told them this week, individually you guys can fly, but as a team, you are made to soar. I’m so excited to see this team put it together.”

Jay led Georgia on vault with a 9.875, while Sydney Snead posted a 9.825. After one rotation, Georgia trailed Florida, 49.300-49.325.

The duo of Snead and Jay paced the Gymdogs on bars with scores of 9.9 and 9.925, respectively. Rachel Schick and Rogers added a pair of 9.85s to give Georgia a score of 49.325 on the event. After the Gators’ 49.275 on vault, Georgia trailed 98.325-98.600 at the halfway mark.

On beam, Box anchored the rotation as she posted a 9.85. Rogers tallied a 9.825. Florida posted a 49.075 on floor, and the Gymdogs trailed 146.775 -147.675 heading into the final rotation.

Vivi Babalis ignited Georgia’s comeback performance on floor with a 9.9, tying her career high. Then the Gymdogs posted three 9.95s in a row from Rogers, Marino and Box, which marked a season-high for both Marino and Box and a career-high for Rogers.

Both Jay and Rogers posted a 39.375 for their all-around score.

“We huddled up as a floor group and said we are not handing this to them,” Jay said. “This is not their meet. This is our house, our event. I think that really got to everybody. It helped. The energy was huge and we knew that we had it.”

Georgia will return to action next Saturday, February 13 when it faces No. 6 LSU at 4 p.m. ET in Stegeman Coliseum. The meet will broadcast live on the SEC Network +.
