[su_spacer size=”40″] The Volunteers scored the game’s lone goal in the 60’. The score came off of a corner kick from Emily Morrow. The Tennessee defender placed the corner in the front side of the box and forward Amy Neal finished it off with a header into the upper right corner.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Head coach Billy Lesesne was disappointed in the outcome and looks forward to getting back to work.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “That first-half we didn’t deal with conditions very well,” Lesesne said. “We didn’t deal well with the tempo of the game either. We were pretty fortunate to be tied 0-0 at half. In the second-half I told the team that there were 45 minutes and we’re still in this thing. We have good chance here. They put together a pretty good second-half. They are a good team. After that we livened up a bit and had some good chances, but nothing that truly tested their goalkeeper.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Volunteers came out of the gates firing, nearly scoring a goal in the first minute. The Bulldogs held their ground and recouped to come back with several near-goal offensive possessions. Caroline Waters and Marion Crowder both went coast-to-coast by themselves to fire shots that came within feet of scoring.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Goalkeeper Louise Hogrell made several impressive saves throughout the game. The Asa, Sweden’s match was highlighted by a diving save with one minute remaining in the first-half that kept the slate clean for the Bulldogs heading into the locker rooms at halftime.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Tennessee owned the overall shot chart with 19 taken to Georgia’s 14. The Bulldogs earned three corner kicks to the Volunteers’ eight. Hogrell finished the game with eight saves.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Bulldogs have Sunday off to round out the weekend. Next on Georgia’s slate is Mississippi State next Friday night at 7 p.m. ET in Athens. The team is then scheduled to travel to Columbia, Missouri to take on the Missouri Tigers on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
