Bulldog Invitational Is This Weekend

[break] The No. 10/9 Georgia softball is set to host the Bulldog Invitational this weekend, Feb. 13-15, at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens, Ga. The Bulldogs look to remain undefeated on the year after posting a perfect 6-0 record on opening weekend. Georgia will host SIU-Edwardsville, Elon and Troy during the three-day tournament.

SEC HONORS
The Bulldogs had two players pick up SEC weekly honors, becoming the 65th and 66th weekly honors in Georgia history. Alex Hugo was named the SEC Player of the Week, while Cortni Emanuel was named the league’s Freshman of the Week. Hugo finished the week with a .529 batting average and 16 RBI, while Emanuel posted a .778 average and 13 stolen bases. Hugo was also named the SEC and National Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.
[break] [break] CATCH HER IF YOU CAN
Cortni Emanuel stole 13 bases in the first six games of the season for Georgia. She is just seven steals away from tying the team leader from a year ago (Anna Swafford with 20). She stole three bases in a game twice last weekend.
[break] [break] HITTING FOR AVERAGE
Georgia had six of its starters hit over .350 over the opening weekend. Cortni Emanuel led the way with a staggering .778 average, collecting 14 hits in 18 at bats. Paige Wilson was second on the team with a .588 average, followed by Sydni Emanuel (.579), Alex Hugo (.529), Samantha LaZear (.455) and Anna Swafford (.385). As a team, Georgia hit .445, while holding its opponents to a .080 average.
[break] [break] RECORD SETTER
Anna Swafford entered the 2015 season needing to be hit by a pitch just two more times to tie the Georgia record set by Taylor Schlopy from 2008-11. She both tied and set the school record against Illinois on Feb. 6 after she was hit by a pitch twice. She now has 51 in her career.
[break] [break] UP NEXT
Georgia takes to the road for the first of three-straight weekends next week when it travels to Cathedral City, Calif., to take part in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Challenge. The Bulldogs will face some of their toughest competition to date, as they are scheduled to play No. 4/3 Oklahoma, No. 20/19 Notre Dame and Texas, who is receiving votes in the poll. Georgia will also face Indiana during the tournament.
