Georgia Softball beats Kennesaw State

The sixth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (30-3) defeated Kennesaw State Wednesday evening at Jack Turner Stadium.

Kylie Bass started the game, pitched five innings and also got the win to improve to (10-1) overall. Brittany Gray relieved Bass, closing the game out with her second save of the season.

Georgia scored early in the first inning on a Mahlena O’Neal single to center field, scoring Justice Milz. Kennesaw State answered in the second inning, tying the game 1-1 heading into the third inning.

What ensued the next handful of innings was a stagnant offense from the Bulldogs. Kennesaw State held the team to three consecutive scoreless innings, keeping the game within reach throughout most of the game.

“We’re really proud of the girls’ mindset,” associate head coach Tony Baldwin said. “We were really sluggish to start, the girls just got together and talked about changing their mindset and competing for each other. Throughout the game we had quality at-bats, we just weren’t getting the hits to go where they were needed. We just kept fighting and competing and eventually, things went our way.”

In the fifth inning, a Justice Milz RBI groundout advanced the runner home from third regaining the lead 2-1 heading into the sixth. Two more runs were added in the sixth inning on a Jessica Morgan single, giving the team a comfortable lead 4-1 and solidifying the win.

Georgia will travel to Knoxville next taking on the seventh-ranked Tennessee Volunteers this Saturday for a three-game series. The first game will be on SEC network and starts at 5 p.m. ET.
