The Georgia softball (38-6) team shutout USC Upstate (29-16) 10-0 Wednesday evening at Jack Turner Stadium. The game was called in the fifth inning making it the teams fifteenth win by decision.

Mary Wilson Avant (5-1) got the win and started for the Bulldogs pitching four shutout innings. Keara Napoli made her fourth appearance this season in relief of Wilson closing the game out for the victory.

The Bulldog’s offense was on fire as the bats were extremely active on a twelve hit day. Alyssa DiCarlo had two home runs giving her sixteen on the season.

The bats were present immediately as the team scored two runs in the first inning on a DiCarlo two-run home run. In the second inning, Georgia tacked on four more runs upping the score to 6-0. Jordan Dogget, Justice Milz, and Cortni Emmanuel all had hits in this inning and drove each other in on two singles and a double.

To put the cherry on top, the final score of the game for the Bulldogs came from an Alyssa DiCarlo solo shot to center field.

“I was really proud of our team and how we came out and hit the ball today,” head coach Lu-Harris Champer said. I thought the second inning with two outs and six productive at-bats in a row to score four runs it was a really big inning for us. The top of the order was lights out.  Alyssa was amazing with her two bombs on the night. Jordan at the bottom was outstanding turning the lineup over. I thought the pitching was outstanding with the defense.”

Georgia is getting near the end of the season and only has three SEC series left to play before the SEC tournament begins in Columbia, Missouri.

Next, the team will head to Lexington, Kentucky to take on the Wildcats for a three-game series this Friday, April 20th at 6 p.m. The game will be televised on the SEC network.
