Lacey Sumerlin’s walk-off RBI single late in the seventh inning sealed Georgia’s comeback against Michigan State with a 4-3 win. The game finished day two of the Bulldog Invitational and marked yet another sweep for the Bulldogs. Georgia also defeated Central Connecticut State earlier in the evening 8-2 in game one of the doubleheader. The victory also marked the Bulldogs sixth win in a row.

Starting pitcher, Brittany Gray pitched the first five innings allowing four hits, including a solo home run, and one unearned run. Mary Wilson Avant came in to relieve Gray in the sixth. She gave up two hits and a solo home run and earned the win.

Michigan State struck first after a Georgia error in the second inning. Georgia rallied in the fourth off a leadoff single from Sydni Emanuel that set up Alyssa DiCarlo’s RBI single. Georgia tied it at one going into the fifth.

The top of the fifth inning opened with a leadoff home run by the Spartans that gave them a 2-1 lead. However, Georgia answered back with a leadoff home run by Alysen Febrey knotting the score once again at 2-all. The tie would not last long, when, at the top of the sixth, Michigan State responded with a solo bomb to right center putting them ahead again by one.

Georgia scored in the bottom frame of the sixth after a miscommunication from the Spartans tying the game at three-all. The Bulldogs held Michigan State scoreless in the top of the seventh, giving the team an opportunity to finish the game. After a quick two outs, another miscue from the Spartans put Burton on second. After Michigan State intentionally walked DiCarlo, Sumerlin came up to bat. She hit a 1-2 ball to midfield sending Burton home for the winning run.

The Bulldogs grit and determination showed against the Spartans as they rallied to win the game. Georgia returns to action Sunday to finish out the Bulldog Invitational with a rematch against Michigan State at 1:30 p.m. out at Jack Turner Stadium.
