Georgia Softball Still Perfect


[break] Georgia softball improved to 11-0 on the season after picking up a pair of wins against Elon and Troy on Saturday, Feb. 14 in the Bulldog Invitational at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens, Ga. Georgia earned a 10-0, five inning win over Elon before defeating Troy 10-6 in the final game of the day.
[break] [break] Georgia wraps up its home stand tomorrow, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m., against Troy in the final game of the Bulldog Invitational. The Bulldogs’ game against SIUE, originally scheduled for 11:30 a.m., has been cancelled.
[break] [break] Georgia 10, Elon 0 (Five Innings)
Georgia earned its sixth shutout of the season with a 10-0, five-inning with over Elon in the first game of the day.
[break] [break] Paige Wilson continued her hot streak, going 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI. Alex Hugo, Kaylee Puailoa and Savannah McHellon also finished with two hits.

[break] Chelsea Wilkinson got the win for the Bulldogs to improve to 6-0 on the year. She gave up just one hit and struck three in four innings of work. Brittany Gray threw a perfect fifth inning to close out the win for Georgia. She faced three batters, striking out two.
[break] [break] Georgia got off to a hot start, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 4-0 lead over the Phoenix. Cortni Emanuel led off with a walk and then stole second. She scored two batters later when Wilson scored on an error by the centerfielder. With a runner at second, Hugo singled to center that made it a 2-0 game. A passed ball got Hugo to third for Griffin, who hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Hugo and made it a 3-0 game. Savannah McHellon drove in the final run of the inning with an RBI single.
[break] [break] The Bulldogs added three runs in the bottom of the third inning to extend their lead to 7-0. C. Emanuel continued to show off her blazing speed, reaching on an infield single and then stealing second. She scored on a double by Sydni Emanuel that gave Georgia a 5-0 lead. Wilson followed with an RBI-single that scored S. Emanuel and made it a 6-0 game. With Wilson at second and two outs, Kaylee Puailoa delivered a single to right that scored Wilson for the final run of the inning that brought the score to 7-0.

[break] The Bulldogs added a run in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI-groundout by Tina Iosefa. Adele Harrison scored on the play that gave Georgia an 8-0 lead.
[break] [break] Elon broke up the no-hitter in the top of the fourth inning, putting runners at first and second. The runners looked to move up on a passed ball, but Katie Collins threw a bullet to Wilson at third to get the final out of the inning.
[break] [break] Georgia scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning that resulted in a 10-0 lead. Wilson led off the game with a single to center. She scored one batter later when Hugo drilled a triple off the top of the wall in right field. She was able to hustle home on an errant throw to give Georgia its 10th run of the game.

[break] Gray came in to close things out for Georgia in the top of the fifth inning. She made quick work of the Phoenix, inducing a groundout before getting the final two batters to strike out swinging.
[break] [break] Georgia 12, Troy 6
The Bulldogs used a hot start in the second game of the day to take a 12-6 win over Troy. C. Emanuel led the offense with three hits, while McHellon tallied two on the day. Wilson was 1-for-1 with three runs scored and two walks.
[break] [break] Wilkinson got her second win of the day to improve to 10-0 on the year. She allowed one hit and struck out 12 in seven innings of work. Bekah Farris and Brittany Gray saw action for Georgia and gave up just two combined hits.
[break] [break] Georgia got off to a quick start, scoring six runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning. C. Emanuel led off the inning with a single and then stole second. She gave the Bulldogs their first run of the game when she crossed the plate on a double by Wilson. McHellon plated the next two runs that made it a 3-0 game on a RBI-single to second. An error by the shortstop plated the fourth run of the inning. With two on and two outs, C. Emanuel stepped up to the plate and doubled into shallow center, scoring both runners and giving Georgia a 6-0 lead.

[break] The Bulldogs added four runs in the bottom of the second that extended its lead to 10-0. Wilson led things off with walk before moving to third on a single and a sacrifice bunt. With the bases loaded after a walk to Chaycie Goggins, Troy was called for an illegal pitch that allowed Wilson to score the first run of the inning. Maeve McGuire and Iosefa recorded back-to-back doubles, which drove in three runs that resulted in the 10-0 lead.
[break] [break] Troy took advantage of six Georgia errors in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 10-6. After two pitchers saw action, Wilkinson came back in and retired the side to end the inning.
[break] [break] Wilkinson settled the defense down and kept Troy at bay over the final three innings.
[break] [break] The Bulldogs got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it a 12-6 game. A walk and a dropped fly put runners on for McHellon who singled to left and scored Hugo and Wilson.
