The No. 10 Georgia Bulldogs (35-10, 9-5) fell to the No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers (33-10, 12-5) by a score of 4-1 in a Sunday evening showdown.

Sydni Emanuel had two of Georgia’s five hits while Maeve McGuire tallied a hit and RBI.

Brittany Gray (10-5) went the distance in the loss, giving up eight hits and five walks while recording six strikeouts in the circle.

Tennessee’s Erin Gabriel (15-4) pitched five innings in the starting role, allowing four hits and the lone run while walking three and striking out four. Rainey Gaffin came in for the final two frames to earn the save, letting up just one hit and striking out a pair.

The Vols did most of their damage in the top of the third inning, as Megan Geer hit a home run over the left field wall, bringing in three runs after back-to-back hits put on baserunners in the prior at-bats. Tennessee added an insurance run in the fifth as well, as Geer crossed the plate on a Gaffin RBI.

Georgia put up its run in the bottom of the third, as Samantha LaZear scored on a sacrifice fly from McGuire. The Bulldogs left nine on base, having a runner reach in each inning, including one at third in three of those.

The Bulldogs look to close the series against the Vols on Monday at 7 p.m. ET in Jack Turner Stadium. The game will be televised on SEC Network while the first 300 fans receive a No. 16 replica jersey T-shirt. Admission to all regular-season games are free.
