SOFTBALL: Bulldogs Nipped by Tigers 4-3 in Baton Rouge

The No. 15 Georgia Bulldogs were nipped by the No. 11 LSU Tigers 4-3 in a Friday night softball game in Baton Rouge, LA.

 
 
Tied at 3 going to the bottom seventh, the Tigers sealed the win in the final frame after opening the inning with a pair of hits. A sacrifice hit moved the winning run to third before Constance Quinn put down a single through the left side for the game’s final run.
 
 
Georgia had three hits in the game against LSU’s Carley Hoover (8-4), as sophomore Alyssa DiCarlo reached in each plate appearance with a hit and two walks. Junior Brittany Gray (16-3) took the loss after allowing nine hits and four walks in the complete-game outing.
 
 
Alyssa DiCarlo’s walk followed by a hit for Lacey Sumerlin set up Georgia for two runs in the first inning after LSU had a passed ball and wild pitch. From there, LSU put up three runs with one in the second and two in the fifth. A walk and two hits let Allie Walljasper bring in the first run before a pair of errors and a sacrifice fly by Bailey Landry added two more to go up 3-2.
 
 
Georgia found a response in the sixth, as another walk to DiCarlo let Kendall Burton come in to pitch run. Burton stole second before rounding third for home to tie it up on a hard-hit double from Maeve McGuire. The Bulldogs held the Tigers scoreless in the sixth before LSU used its home half of the seventh to gain the victory.

The teams are set to meet up for game number two today, but please make note that the first pitch being pushed back to 7 p.m. ET due to forecasted inclement weather in Baton Rouge. The game will still be featured on SEC Network+/WatchESPN.
