SOFTBALL: Georgia Beats Tennessee in Game One

The 15th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs beat the 12th-ranked Tennessee Vols Friday night 8-2 to take game one of the weekend series

“I’ll start by saying I’m as proud today for the way we came out and competed than in any game that we have had all season,” said head coach Tony Baldwin.

The Dawgs scored eight runs on eight hits tonight. Ellie Armistead and Jayda Kearney led the Dawgs with two hits each. Armistead crossed the plate three times while Sydney Kuma crossed twice.
Madison Kerpics went all seven innings in the circle for the Dawgs and only allowed two runs with five strikeouts.

The Bulldogs plated the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Kuma hit a double to the outfield. Jaiden Fields then hit an RBI single to right field to plate Kuma and give the Dawgs the lead.
Armistead had a remarkable inside-the-park-home run in the second straight down the right-field line. This expanded Georgia’s lead to 2-0.

The Vols scored a run in the third inning and again in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth Lyndi Rae Davis plated Kearney with an incredible double to right field. A bases-loaded walk scored pinch-runner CJ Landrum. Lacey Fincher was walked after being hit by a pitch shortly after and Hayley Eaton scored. The Bulldogs extended their lead by 3.

Fincher plated Armistead with an RBI single in the sixth and shortly after Kearney singled to right field and scored pinch-runner Faith Barth and Kuma.

Georgia will be back in action at Jack Turner Stadium for game two against Tennessee Saturday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
