#25 Georgia softball wrapped up opening weekend at the Kajikawa Classic Saturday evening with a 7-0 shutout of Oregon State at Farrington Stadium.

The Bulldogs finished tournament play 4-1 including two wins over top-20 programs. Saturday’s game was Oregon State’s (3-1) first loss of the season.

Coming off a one-run complete game against #15 Utah on Friday, Brittany Gray (3-0) came back out and worked the complete-game shutout of the Beavers. She allowed only four hits to the Beavers while striking out 10 batters. Gray finishes the weekend allowing only one unearned run in 16.0 innings while striking out 17.

At the plate, Georgia put up 11 hits including four for extra bases. Kendall Burton finished a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI. She finishes the weekend hitting .722 with 13 hits in five games.

Justice Milz, Alyssa DiCarlo, and Alysen Febrey all had a pair of hits in Saturday’s game. DiCarlo led the squad with three home runs and 11 RBI on the weekend while Febrey had 10 hits, four doubles, two home runs, and led the squad with a 1.222 slugging percentage and eight RBI.

As a team, Georgia outscored its opponents 25-3 after falling to #3 Oregon on Friday. On the weekend, the Bulldogs put up 51 runs to their opponents’ 12. Georgia slugged 12 doubles and 12 home runs.

After scoring 13 runs on Friday night against BYU, the bats picked up where they left off to open the game. After a double by DiCarlo put two on, Febrey singled into right to plate the go-ahead run. With two down and bases loaded following a walk to Ciara Bryan, Burton punched a single into left, driving in DiCarlo and Febrey to widen the first-inning lead to 3-0.

Milz was on base again in the second inning with a two-out base hit. She scored from first on DiCarlo’s second double of the game, this time ripped down the left field line, extending the lead to 4-0.

After Burton reached on her third hit of the night, a one-out single, she came around to score on a pinch-hit double off the wall by Jessica Morgan. Morgan touched home when Cortni Emanuel grounded into a fielder’s choice, lengthening the Georgia lead to 6-0 in the sixth.

Febrey tacked on another run with her second home run of the season hit off the scoreboard in left field, 7-0 Georgia in the final frame.

The Bulldogs will return to Athens to host the Red & Black Showcase beginning Friday, Feb. 16. Winthrop, Samford, and Evansville will partake in the tournament.
