The Georgia Bulldogs increased their overall record to 9-1 with an 11-0 win against Winthrop and a 16-0 win against Nebraska-Omaha—each in only five innings. These two games Saturday wrapped up the Red & Black Showcase held in Athens, Georgia.
Georgia’s pitching completely shut out Winthrop. Kylie Bass started in the circle for the Bulldogs, and Alley Cutting pitched the last two innings in relief. Combined they threw a total of nine strikeouts and did not allow any hits.
Alyssa DiCarlo had an all-around good day. Against Winthrop she recorded four RBIs and went 2-for-2 with two homers. Later on in the day against the Mavericks she was 3-for-4 and recorded another home run.
Both Jordan Doggett and Ciara Bryan went 2-for-3 against Omaha. Bryan also was 2-for-3 against Winthrop.
Omaha did not have a sound pitching game. They rotated in three pitchers, walking five. The Mavericks also recorded five errors, allowing Georgia to score more runs than they should have.
Georgia’s pitching, on the other hand, was very successful against Omaha’s offense. Both Lauren Mathis and Amanda Ablan struck out three and only allowed three hits.
Looking ahead Georgia will play Georgia State in Atlanta, Georgia, Wednesday. Friday Athens will host another tournament, the Georgia Classic.
