This will be the eighth time that Georgia and Michigan have faced off on the diamond. The last time the teams met was in the 2010 season opener when the Bulldogs won 6-4 over the No. 3 Wolverines. Georgia trails Michigan 3-4 in the all-time series.
[su_spacer size=”40″] ATHENS REGIONAL
The Bulldogs took the hard way to the NCAA Regional title. After winning the first game 6-1, the Bulldogs lost a 14-inning marathon game 2-1 against Western Kentucky. Following the loss, the Bulldogs needed to defeat North Carolina on Saturday and Western Kentucky twice on Sunday. The Bulldogs did so in dramatic and convincing fashion. Alex Hugo hit a walk-off home run against North Carolina before the Bulldogs out scored the Hilltoppers 29-3 on Sunday.
[su_spacer size=”40″] DON’T CALL IT A COMEBACK
Since going to the current NCAA Regional format in 2005, there have only been 19 times that a team has come back to win a regional after losing one game. The Bulldogs have done so in each of the last two years. Michigan accomplished the feat last season.
[su_spacer size=”40″] 17 RUNS
The 17 runs that Georgia put up against Western Kentucky in the Regional Championship game was the most runs scored this season by the Bulldogs. The previous most was 16 against Towson early in the season.
[su_spacer size=”40″] IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
The Bulldogs are making their 14th-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament this weekend. Georgia owns an overall record in 54-28 in the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs have reached the Regional round of play 14 times, advancing to a Super Regional eight times and to the Women’s College World Series twice, in 2009 and 2010.
[su_spacer size=”40″] 14 INNINGS
Georgia played in its second-longest game in program history last weekend against Western Kentucky. The teams battled for 14 innings, before Western Kentucky won 2-1. It was the longest game that has ever been played at Georgia’s home stadium, the longest game the Bulldogs have played in the postseason and was just one inning shy of tying the record for the longest game in program history.
[su_spacer size=”40″] UP NEXT
The winner of the NCAA Ann Arbor Super Regional will advance to the Women’s College World Series. Should Georgia win, it will be third appearance in the WCWS in school history. The winner of this Super Regional will play the winner of the Tuscaloosa Super Regional.
