Softball: The Dawgs Walk-Off Clemson

Senior, Savana Sikes secured the victory over the 16th-ranked Clemson Tigers Wednesday night with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh at Jack Turner Stadium. β€œI was just competing for my team, I didn’t want to let them down,” said Sikes.





The fans showed up early and loud to cheer on the Dawgs. Former head coach Lu Harris-Champer was among the 1,276 spectators in attendance for the top-25 showdown.

Sydney Kuma led Georgia with two hits in the game. The Dawgs were able to deliver three runs on six hits. Jaiden Fields put the Dawgs on the board in the second inning with her seventh home run of the season.
Madison Kerpics worked all seven innings in the circle for Georgia. She struck out seven and allowed two hits.

The Dawgs had a couple of costly errors to start with and Clemson took advantage of them and loaded the bases. Kerpics hit a batter and walked a run across the plate to put the Tigers on the board first, 1-0.
Clemson acquired a solo home run to begin the second and Fields hit a solo home run for the Dawgs as well in the bottom of the second inning that cut the Tigers lead to 2-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Kuma hit a lead off single for the Dawgs. Payton Bordeau grounded out to advance Kuma to second. Savana Sikes came up to bat with two outs and hit a line drive down the left-field line to bring in Kuma for a 3-2 Georgia win.

The Dawgs host their first SEC home series this weekend against Texas A&M at Jack Turner Stadium The first pitch Friday is slated for 6 p.m.
