Allison Schmitt and Hali Flickinger Top 200 Freestyle At National Championships

[su_spacer size=”20″] Georgia’s Allison Schmitt and Hali Flickinger went 1-2 in the women’s 200-meter freestyle at the Phillips 66 National Championships on Friday.[su_spacer size=”40″] Schmitt, who ended her highly decorated career at Georgia in 2013, touched first in 1:56.91. Flickinger, a senior for the Lady Bulldogs, followed in 1:58.18.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Schmitt holds the American (1:53.61) and U.S. Open (1:54.40) records in the 200-meter freestyle. Her six Olympic medals include gold in the 200-meter freestyle at the 2012 London Games.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Former Lady Bulldog Megan Romano won the consolation final of the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1:59.49.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Junior Pace Clark took third in the men’s 200-meter butterfly in 1:56.84. Sophomore Gunnar Bentz came in second in the consolation final in 1:58.80.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Junior Olivia Smoliga stopped the clock in 1:00.44 to place fourth in the women’s 100-meter backstroke.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Phillips 66 National Championships will continue Saturday and will conclude on Monday.
