SWIMMING & DIVING: Gunnar Bentz Wins 400 IM Title At National Championships

[su_spacer size=”20″] Georgia’s Gunnar Bentz claimed the title in the men’s 400-meter individual medley on Thursday at the Phillips 66 National Championships.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Bentz, a sophomore for the Bulldogs, touched in 4:14.16. Bentz was nearly three seconds better than Travis Mahoney’s 4:17.00 and Sean Grieshop’s 4:17.02.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Former Bulldog Andrew Gemmell placed fourth in the consolation final of the 400 individual medley in 4:21.12.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Senior Hali Flickinger came in second in the 400-meter freestyle as she stopped the clock in 4:07.93, trailing only Lindsay Vrooman’s 4:07.88.  Former Lady Bulldog Allison Schmitt placed sixth in the event in 4:09.59.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Flickinger also took seventh in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 59.64.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Junior Emily Cameron (2:12.54) and sophomore Meaghan Raab (2:13.96) were fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 200-meter individual medley.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Freshman Aidan Burns came in fifth in the “C” final of the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 3:56.99.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Phillips 66 National Championships will continue on Friday and will conclude on Monday.
