SWIMMING and DIVING: Six Bulldogs Chosen For SEC Weekly Awards

Six members of the Georgia swimming and diving teams were selected for the weekly awards by the Southeastern Conference on Tuesday.

 
Kylie Stewart and Jay Litherland were picked as the SEC Swimmers of the Week, Courtney Harnish and Greg Reed were chosen as the SEC Freshmen of the Week, and Madison Duvall and Charlie Clifton were tabbed as the SEC Divers of the Week.
 
 
The six helped Georgia open the home portion of the schedule with wins over North Carolina on Friday.
 
 
Stewart, a senior from Acworth, Ga., won two individual events and was on a victorious relay. She won the 100 backstroke in 52.48 and the 200 backstroke in 1:56.20 as both times were NCAA provisional cuts. Stewart swam the second leg in helping the 400 freestyle relay win in 3:21.52.
 
 
Litherland, a senior from Alpharetta, Ga., won the 200 freestyle in 1:37.23, the 200 backstroke in 1:46.29 and the 400 individual medley in 3:51.46. All three times were NCAA B cuts. He anchored the 200 medley relay that placed first in 1:29.28.
 
 
Duvall, a junior from Woodstock, Ga., placed second on each springboard. She registered 312.23 points on 3-meter and 275.48 on 1-meter. Each score reached the NCAA Zone qualifying standards.
 
 
Clifton, a sophomore from Nashville, Tenn., came in second on 1-meter and third on 3-meter. Clifton had a score of 371.25 on 1-meter and 329.63 on 3-meter as each score reached the Zone standards. Each score also ranks first in the SEC this season.
 
 
Harnish, a freshman from York, Pa., won two individual events and was on a victorious relay. Harnish won the 200 freestyle in 1:47.71 and the 500 freestyle in 4:46.36, both of which were B cuts. She also came in third in the 100 freestyle in 51.27. Harnish swam the third leg of the 400 freestyle relay that won in 3:21.52.
 
 
Reed, a freshman from Roanoke, Va., won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 9:06.76. He also placed fourth in the 500 freestyle in 4:31.94.
 
 
Georgia’s squads will return to action Thursday, Oct. 19, at Wisconsin. The next home meet will be against Georgia Tech on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
