The Georgia women’s tennis team moved up three spots in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings to No. 3 and up to No. 4 in the most recent USTA collegiate rankings.

The Bulldogs defeated previously-ranked No. 10 Duke and No. 3 Pepperdine in the first two rounds of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships before falling to top-ranked Florida this past weekend. The finish marked the third consecutive year Georgia has appeared in the semifinals, a feat that is only shared with North Carolina.

In the ITA rankings, Georgia went from the sixth spot to the third slot, jumping Oklahoma State, Stanford and Pepperdine. Florida still holds the reigns as the top team with North Carolina following right behind. The Gators beat the Tar Heels 4-2 in the finals of the National Team Indoors. Recently-defeated Bulldog opponents’ Duke and Pepperdine fell to No. 15 and No. 8, respectively. Nine Southeastern Conference schools occupy the top-25, the largest representation among conferences.

The inaugural USTA collegiate rankings that debuted last week had the Bulldogs tabbed at No. 7. In this week’s edition, Georgia leapfrogged three teams to the fourth position with 127 total points. The point totals are the sum of its ranking points from the panel’s eight voters. Florida and North Carolina occupy the same one-two spots while Ohio State inched up to third from a tie in fifth. The teams the Bulldogs passed were Pepperdine, Stanford and Oklahoma State.

Georgia returns to the court to play the Bears of Mercer next Wednesday, February 22nd. The match begins at 2 p.m. and will be at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens.
