The Georgia men’s tennis team has earned a number 13 seed and been selected as one of 16 hosts for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championships.

The Bulldogs won both the 2017 SEC regular-season and tournament titles and will look to vie for a NCAA Championship when they take on Florida A&M in the first round on Friday, May 12 for a 2:00 p.m. ET match. South Florida will face Duke earlier in the day at 11:00 a.m. ET, and the winners of those two matches will meet on Saturday, May 13th, at 3:00 p.m. ET.

Georgia will also host the later rounds of the NCAA Championships and the individual singles and doubles tournaments, which will be held May 18-29. This will be the 32nd year the Round of 16 and later portions of the NCAA Championships have been held in Athens, and first since 2014.

“From the start, we’re going to get challenged,” Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz said. “We bring in two nationally ranked programs who are traditional powers, so that certainly puts us on edge, and in a way, will help us prepare well. We’re excited to be attracting top tennis to the Athens area starting with the first and second rounds.”

Tuesday’s announcement marks the 39th NCAA Tournament appearance and the 34th-consecutive NCAA bid for the Bulldogs. Georgia has won six NCAA National Championships as a team (1985, 1987, 1999, 2001, 2007 and 2008), while a Georgia player has won the NCAA Singles Championship four times (Mikael Pernfors in 1984 and 1985; Matias Boeker in 2001 and 2002). The Bulldogs have claimed the doubles title on three occasions – Ola Malmqvist and Allen Miller in 1983, Boeker and Travis Parrott, and John Isner and Antonio Ruiz in 2005.

The Georgia women’s tennis team drew the 5th overall seed and will host South Carolina State in the first round, with the winner taking on the winner of Oregon and North Carolina State. Georgia’s women will compete on Saturday, May 13 at noon, and if they win, they will play their second match on Sunday, May 14 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children and students and can be purchased at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex beginning one hour before the match each day.
