The Georgia men’s tennis team is currently ranked 10th in both the Oracle/ITA Team Rankings and the inaugural USTA College Tennis Top 25 with the latest rankings released on Wednesday. The Bulldogs remain in the top 10 despite dropping two matches over the past weekend to UCLA and Southern California.
This is the fifth edition of this season’s Oracle/ITA Rankings, and the Bulldogs have been in the top 10 each week. The ITA also released its second set of individual rankings of the spring season, with three Bulldogs featured in the singles poll and a pair in the doubles rankings. Georgia’s singles rankings are highlighted by junior Wayne Montgomery, who used three consecutive wins over ranked opponents to jump from 22nd to No. 15 in the poll. Sophomore Emil Reinberg checks in at No. 55, while two-time SEC Freshman of the Week Nathan Ponwith improves to No. 117. The duo of Jan Zielinski and Walker Duncan jumped 22 spots up to No. 15 in the doubles poll.
The Bulldogs received 94 points in the USTA Top 25, determined by the sum of ranking points from the USTA’s panel of eight voters. The rankings will be released each Wednesday through the conclusion of the NCAA Division I season in May.
Seven future opponents on Georgia’s schedule were featured in the polls. The Bulldogs travel to Columbus, Ohio, Sunday to face Ohio State (No. 3 in ITA/No. 2 in USTA) at 12 p.m, and will face Wake Forest (2/T3) at home on March 17. Five SEC schools in addition to Georgia found a spot in at least one of the rankings, including Florida (6/T3), Kentucky (15/14), Mississippi State (16/16), Ole Miss (23/NR) and Texas A&M (25/21).
