The Georgia men’s tennis team played six singles and three doubles matches against Georgia Tech, taking wins in all nine contests to conclude play at the 2018 MLK Invitational on Monday.

The Bulldogs started the day with two 6-0 wins in doubles. Georgia’s duo of Jan Zielinski and Robert Loeb defeated Tech’s Michael Kay and Andrew Li, 6-0, while the tandem of Nathan Ponwith and Alex Diaz ousted Phillip Gresk and Chris Yun by the same score.

Georgia’s junior/senior duo of Walker Duncan and Wayne Montgomery then followed with a 6-2 victory against Yellow Jacket counterparts Elijah Melendez and Daniel Yun.

“We looked great in doubles today and got better all the way around each day this week,” head coach Manuel Diaz said. “We were able to win at every singles and doubles court, which was pretty impressive by our team. Overall, it was a good first weekend for us to build on as we start the spring season. There were definitely plenty of positives to take away, and I feel like we are ready to go now as we get ready for the spring.”

It marked the second-straight day the Bulldogs earned a sweep on the doubles courts after Georgia won three doubles and four of five singles contests against Illinois on Sunday.

Paul Oosterbaan, who played in his first event since overcoming an injury last season, notched his third consecutive win while Diaz won his second-straight match in the first action of his career.

Georgia’s Ponwith rebounded from a tough loss on Sunday to take a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Daniel Yun. Zielinski took down Li, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5), while Loeb defeated Chris Yun, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

12th-ranked Montgomery went 3-0 in singles for the week after he defeated Gresk, 6-4, 6-4, on Monday. Then, Emil Reinberg rounded out Georgia’s wins with a 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 victory over Melendez.

Georgia has a brief break before hosting Arkansas, Memphis and Iowa for the ITA Kick-off Weekend on Jan. 28-29.
