MEN’S TENNIS: Nathan Ponwith Advances to Consolation Semifinals

UGA men’s tennis sophomore Nathan Ponwith won two singles matches to advance to the semifinals of the 2017 Saint Francis ITA All-American Championships consolation draw at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

 
The 2017 Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year defeated Alexander Cozbinov from UNLV, 6-4, 6-4, in the Round of 16 before taking down 39th-ranked Matic Spec of Minnesota, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
 
 
Ponwith will now play Valentine Vacherot from Texas A&M in the Final Four on Sunday, with the finals of the consolation draw to be held on Monday.
 
 
Vacherot advanced to the semifinals round by defeating Georgia junior Walker Duncan in a back-and-forth match that resulted in a 6-7 (4), 7-6 (9), 6-3 win for the Aggie. Earlier in the day, Duncan got the better half of 75th-ranked Logan Staggs from UCLA, 6-3, 6-4.
