University of Georgia men’s tennis freshman Tyler Zink has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

The Bradenton, Fla., native led Georgia to its 10th-straight win against Georgia Tech this past Sunday. The Bulldogs have now defeated the Yellow Jackets in 33 of the last 34 meetings.

“Tyler is off to a great start,” head coach Manuel Diaz said. “He has already won some big matches for us, but what impresses me most is his tireless work ethic to get better every single day. Tyler is a competitor and a special young man who is going to do big things for our program.”

Zink played a pivotal role in the Bulldogs’ win against Tech. He and sophomore Trent Bryde improved to 4-0 and clinched the doubles point to give Georgia the early 1-0 lead. In singles, Zink ousted Pablo Schelcher to clinch the match.

The Georgia freshman is 7-2 in singles this spring and has won all four of his doubles matches. This comes after he won the US Open Junior Doubles title in the fall, becoming the first Bulldog to do since Jamie Hunt and Nate Schnugg.

This week, Zink and the Bulldogs take on No. 4 Texas in Austin at 1 p.m. ET/noon CT Sunday.
