The No. 12 Georgia men’s tennis team will host No. 1 Wake Forest today starting at 3:00 p.m. ET this afternoon. Meanwhile, the women’s tennis team are on the road to take on top-ranked Florida for a 5:00 p.m. late this afternoon.
The top-ranked Wake Forest men’s tennis team is 13-1 on the year. The Bulldogs last beat the top-ranked team in 2014, taking down then-No. 1 Ohio State, 4-3. Georgia has never lost to the Demon Deacons in the 16 all-time matches between the two schools. The last meeting was on March 20, 1988, which resulted in an 8-1 victory for Georgia.
Georgia has gotten out to a 4-0 start in SEC play and is on a five-match win streak. Last week, the Bulldogs took down then-No. 37 Ole Miss, 6-1, before a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Arkansas. Georgia trailed the Razorbacks, 3-2, before Robert Loeb (at No. 6) and Walker Duncan (No. 5) delivered singles victories to clinch the win.
The Bulldog men will also hit the road, traveling to Knoxville on Sunday to take on No. 43 Tennessee for a 3:00 p.m. ET match. The Bulldogs hold a 53-23 mark against the Volunteers, and are currently on an eight-match win streak in the series.
The Georgia women’s tennis team are currently ranked sixth in the country with a 9-3 record, 3-1 in SEC play. The Gators (13-0, 3-0) have not budged from the top spot of the ITA rankings since the season’s first addition in January. This marks the second meeting of the year for the two teams as Florida ousted Georgia from the National Team Indoors in the semifinals in February. The Gators feature seven ranked singles players with five landing inside the top-35. Returning All-SEC First Team recipient Belinda Woolcock plays No. 1 followed by Ingrid Neel who is one of only four freshman in the nation that are ranked higher than Christofi at No. 14. Anchoring the deep UF squad is reigning SEC Player of the Year Brooke Austin and Kortney Keegan, an all-conference second teamer.
After the Lady Bulldogs face Florida, they will travel to Columbia, South Carolina on Sunday to play the No. 21 Gamecocks for a 1:00 p.m. afternoon match.
