[su_spacer size=”40″] Pacific Palisades, Calif. — UGA Women’s Tennis: Ellen Perez continues to dominate at All-Americans.
[su_spacer size=”20″] Sophomore Ellen Perez, the 29th-ranked singles player in the country, continued her torrid pace on the west coast with two singles victories and a doubles victory alongside fellow sophomore Mariana Gould, sealing a place in both the singles and doubles semifinals at the ITA All-American Championships.

Perez is the first Bulldog to reach the singles semifinals since Lauren Herring in 2013. Perez-Gould form the first UGA duo in the semifinal since 2011 when Nadja Gilchrist and Chelsey Gullickson made it to the final four.
[su_spacer size=”40″] More impressively, Perez is the first UGA player to reach the semifinals in both singles and doubles since Agata Cioroch in 2003. Since the addition of the doubles bracket to the tournament by the ITA in 1988, Perez is the 20th player to reach the semifinal round in both singles and doubles.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “Ellen has made tremendous strides in her game both with her skills and her mentality,” said Associate Head Coach Drake Bernstein.”She has put in the hours leading up to this tournament, so as coaches we are very pleased to see her getting the results that she deserves.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] Individually, Perez first defeated the top-ranked newcomer in the nation, Francesa di Lorenzo of Ohio State by a 6-2, 6-2 tally. She followed up that win by knocking off Michigan’s Ronit Yurovsky, ranked 19th nationally, 7-5, 6-1. Next she will face Miami’s Sinead Lohan, No. 6, who she defeated in straight sets in Puerto Rico earlier in the year.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Perez-Gould pairing, ranked 20th, took an 8-5 decision over Beatrice Capra and Ellyse Hamlin of Duke, ranked 39th. They will take on Hayley Carter and Whitney Kay of North Carolina, the 15th-ranked pairing in the country.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “Ellen and Mariana got off to a good start in doubles and never looked back,” Bernstein added. “They’re both getting valuable experience playing deep in the biggest tournament of the fall.”
