The fourth-ranked Georgia women’s tennis team will face No. 12 Auburn in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament at 1:00 p.m. ET at the Currey Tennis Center today.

The Bulldogs women’s tennis team tuned up on the practice courts Thursday afternoon at the Currey Tennis Center in preparation for today’s tourney match against the Tigers. While the Lady Dogs were practicing, Auburn battled No. 14 Arkansas in a semifinal match that took nearly four and a half hours to complete. The Tigers prevailed over the Razorbacks 4-3.

“We had a good workout today,” Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace said. “I feel like dealing with the weather, we decided to hit some inside and outside. I think the team is fired up and ready to get this first match going tomorrow.”

The Nashville forecast calls for rain for the next three days. In that case, play would move indoors.

Georgia and Auburn met during the regular season on March 12th with the then-No. 13 Bulldogs toppling the then fourth-ranked Tigers 4-1 in Auburn. Georgia captured the doubles point, and then closed it out with singles wins by Mariana Gould, Marta Gonzalez and lastly, Elena Christofi for the clinch.

In doubles, Gould and Gonzalez won on court No. 3, before Christofi and Kennedy Shaffer secured the point on court No. 2.

The Tigers’ projected lineup is vastly different from the regular season meeting as only one singles court and the first two doubles courts will be a rematch.

“Auburn has had a great season and we are getting ready for them,” Wallace added. “It is a different match each time you play. Last time we were at Auburn and this time we are in the SEC tournament, so it is a different environment and a different lineup. However, it is Georgia versus Auburn so you have to be ready.”

This matchup marks the fifth all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and the Tigers at the SEC Tournament with Georgia holding the record at 4-0.

The Bulldogs are 24-3 in the program’s history in the SEC Quarterfinals.
