WTEN: Bulldogs Tabbed Seventh in ITA Preseason Poll

The Georgia women’s tennis team checks in at No. 7 in the first edition of the ITA Rankings for the 2021 spring season announced Thursday morning.
 
The Bulldogs finished No. 8 after the 2020 spring season was cut short due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.


 
The ITA also announced their individual rankings for the 2021 spring season earlier this week. For singles, Katarina Jokic was the highest-ranked Bulldogs coming in at No. 16. ITA Southeast Rookie of the Year Lea Ma checks in at No. 31. Marta Gonzalez and Meg Kowalski come in at No. 50 and No. 60, respectively and Morgan Coppoc rounds out the singles rankings at No. 73.
 
In doubles, two duos found themselves ranked with the pairing of Ania Hertel and Jokic being ranked No. 10 and the pairing of Elena Christofi and Coppoc comes in at No. 37.


 
The Bulldogs will kick off the 2021 season at the FSU Invitational with a series of hidden duels against Florida State and Clemson. Georgia will face seven opponents that were ranked in the initial ITA Rankings. Three of the Bulldog’s non-conference opponents are ranked in the top-15 with North Carolina sits atop at No. 1, Florida State at No. 9 and Georgia Tech at No. 13. For conference foes, South Carolina comes in at No. 14 with Vanderbilt right behind the at No. 15. Florida and LSU round out the scheduled ranked opponents at 21 and 24, respectively.
 
Changes were made to the 2021 spring schedule including the addition of Clemson to the FSU Invitational and Miami opting out. The Bulldogs will face off against the Seminoles in a regular-season duel on Feb. 7 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex at 1 p.m. and the SEC has announced a change to the SEC Tournament, making the dates April 19-23 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
