Anna Hertel was named SEC Freshman of the Week, for the week of Feb. 5 announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon.

The freshman from Warsaw, Poland has been undefeated in doubles so far this season competing with Katarina Jokic on court one and have earned a ranking of 42 in the latest ITA rankings. The duo has been unstoppable notching two sweeps as well as a couple of wins over ranked opponents as well. In singles, Hertel is 3-1 on the season but most recently is 2-0 in Georgia’s last two wins over No. 22 Georgia Tech and Clemson where she would clinch both matches with her singles wins on court four and three, respectively.

“Anna has continued to play really, really great for us,” Head Coach Jeff Wallace said. “She’s really been working hard and I think this is a well-deserved award for her.”

This is the first Freshman of the Week Award for Hertel and the second straight week a Georgia freshman was awarded the honor. Last week, Lea Ma was earned Freshman of the Week Honors after starting the season 2-0 in singles on court two and 1-0 in doubles on court three.

Georgia begins preparations for its return to the ITA National Indoor Tournament in Chicago, Ill. as defending National Champions. The Bulldogs will open up the tournament as the No. 3 seed and will take on Virginia in the first round at Noon CT on Friday, Feb. 7. The field consists of No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 North Carolina, No. 4 UCLA, No. 7 Texas, No. 6 Pepperdine, No. 8 N.C. State, No. 12 Ohio State, No.  10 Michigan, No. 22 Georgia Tech, No. 9 Florida State, No. 5 Duke, No. 17 Princeton and No. 14 Arizona State.
