The No. 3 women’s tennis team concluded its 2020-21 season, falling in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament to No. 6 N.C. State, 4-2 on Wednesday morning at the USTA National Campus.
The Bulldogs finish the season at 23-2, 13-0 in conference play and 13-2 against top-25 opponents this season and went out as SEC Regular Season Champions, as well as SEC Tournament Champions.
Georgia dropped only their third doubles point of the season in a tightly contested set of matches. Morgan Coppoc and Elena Christofi were defeated by No. 5 Jaeda Daniel and Adriana Reami 6-4 on court two, while Meg Kowalski and Lea Ma fell to No. 42 Abigail Rencheli and Amelia Rajecki 7-5 on court three. No. 6 Katarina Jokic and Ariana Arseneault went unfinished on court one up 6-5 against No. 12 Anna Rogers and Alana Smith.
Singles was a back and forth affair with No. 4 Jokic striking first to tie the match up, defeating No. 6 Rogers in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 on court one. The Wolf Pack would add another point with Reami defeating No. 20 Kowalski 6-1, 6-4 on court three. Daniel would tally another point for N.C. State, taking down No. 68 Coppoc 6-4, 6-4. Chrisoti would close the gap on court six, defeating Lexi Keberle 7-5, 6-2. Coming down to courts two and five, it would be Marta Gonzalez who ultimately fell in a second set tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-7(6) to No. 82 Rencheli. No. 55 Ma went unfinished on court two.
The NCAA Individual Tournament begins Monday, May 24 and features four Bulldogs. Jokic, Kowalski and Ma will all compete on the singles side, while Jokic and Arseneault will take part on the doubles side.
