WTENNIS: UGA Clinches SEC Regular Season Title

The No. 3 Georgia women’s tennis team clinched its 11th SEC Regular Season Title with a 4-0 win over No. 24 Arkansas Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs improved to 14-1 (10-0 SEC) completing the match at a record pace. Doubles concluded in just 30-minutes with the No. 3 duo of Katarina Jokic and Ariana Arseneault defeating Morgan Cross and Tatum Rice 6-0 on court one followed by Elena Christofi and Morgan Coppoc besting Lauren Alter and Indianna Spink 6-1 on court two clinching the doubles point for the Bulldogs. Meg Kowalski and Lea Ma went unfinished in their match on court three.

Singles was played with No. 61 Coppoc pushing her win streak to nine after defeating Cross 6-1, 6-3 on court four with Christofi right behind her defeating Jackie Carr 6-2, 6-0 on court six. No. 59 Ma clinched her second-straight match for the Bulldogs after taking down Kelly Keller 6-2, 6-4 on court two. No. 1 Jokic, No. 12 Kowalski and No. 96 Gonzalez all went unfinished in their matches.

Georgia can claim the SEC regular-season title outright with a win in any of its final three league matches. Georgia also claimed the title in 2019 before the 2020 regular season was cut short due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, April 8 against Alabama with first serve set for 5 p.m. and conclude the regular season with senior day on Saturday, April 10 against Arkansas. Both matches will be at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
