The No. 3 Georgia women’s tennis team will open its first round of the NCAA Tournament with Austin Peay this afternoon, with the first serve set for 1 p.m.

Georgia received a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the 34th-straight year with an all-time tournament record of 84-31. The 2021 season marks the 10th consecutive year the Bulldog women have earned a host position for the first and second rounds of the tournament. The Bulldogs have two NCAA titles (1994 and 2000), while a Bulldog has won the NCAA singles championship three times (1984 Lisa Spain, 1994 Angela Lettiere, and 2010 Chelsey Gullickson).

Georgia is slated as the No. 3 overall seed after claiming both the SEC Regular Season and Tournament crowns and will play host to Austin Peay, Furman, and Wake Forest. The region features three conference champions in Georgia, Austin Peay and Furman, winning their respective conferences.

The Bulldogs return to the NCAA Tournament as National Finalist, falling to Stanford in the National Championship match in 2019. The Bulldogs have not made it out of the round of 32 only three times under the helm of Coach Wallace and have two National Championships in 1994 and 2000.

Austin Peay will come to Athens as the Ohio Valley Conference Champions for the second-straight year. The Governors sports  12-3 overall record and a 5-2 record in the OVC. This will be the first time the Bulldogs and Govs face off in competition, regular season or post. While Austin Peay has no ranked individual members, Jana Leder was named First Team All-OVC, while Danielle Morris and Fabienne Schmidt were both named Second Team All-OVC. Leder was also named OVC Co-Freshman of the Year.
