[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia senior Garrett Scantling has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Men’s Field Athlete of the Week as well as the Southeastern Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week following his record-breaking performance at the Bulldog Decathlon.
[su_spacer size=”40″] In addition, Scantling has been included as one of 10 student-athletes on the first outdoor Men’s Watch List for the Bowerman Trophy, which is track and field’s version of The Heisman Trophy. Scantling is one of three competitors from the SEC on the current list.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Scantling, a Jacksonville, Fla., native, bested teammate Maicel Uibo’s school record 8,223 points scored to win the 2013 Bulldog Decathlon with 8,232 to win the 2015 version of the meet. Scantling took over the world’s top score this year and leads that category by more than 300 points.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Scantling’s final tally at the competition in Athens makes him the No. 9 all-time collegiate performer with the No. 12 all-time collegiate performance. In his seventh career decathlon, Scantling posted 10 personal-best marks, including his day one score (4,279) and his total score, and leads the NCAA by more than 400 points.
