TRACK and FIELD: UGA’s Garrett Scantling SEC Athlete of the Week

[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia track and field senior Garrett Scantling has been named the Southeastern Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, according to a league announcement.

[su_spacer size=”40″] Scantling, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., tallied his fourth career heptathlon total of more than 6,000 points to win the Razorback Invitational with a 6,020 total. It is the No. 1 mark in the NCAA, No. 2 mark in the world this year and his performance included personal bests in 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and shot put.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Scantling set personal bests in the 60 hurdles (7.96, which ranks sixth on Georgia’s all-time top-10 list) and shot put (51 feet) and tied his top mark in the pole vault (16-8.75, which ranks 10th on Georgia’s all-time list) during his performance on Arkansas’ campus, which is also the site of this year’s SEC Indoor Championships.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Scantling is the second Bulldog to earn an SEC weekly award this season. Denzel Comenentia was named the league’s Freshman of the Week following his debut in the shot put on January 22-23.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Bulldogs return to action at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet in Blacksburg, Va., on February 5-6.
