[su_spacer size=”20″] Thirty-one members of Georgia’s track and field teams have qualified for the NCAA East Prelims in Jacksonville, Fla., and will compete May 28-30.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The stepping-stone to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 10-13 cranks up at North Florida’s facility next week. Forty-eight qualify in each event and the top 12 in each event from both the East and West (Austin, Texas) regions advance to Eugene.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Fifteen of the Bulldog individuals or relay teams are currently ranked in the top 12 in the East Region, including true freshman Keturah Orji’s top ranking in the triple jump.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Four Bulldogs get a free pass through the Prelim round through to the NCAA Championship finals. Junior Maicel Uibo and senior Garrett Scantling are ranked first and second, respectively, in the decathlon nationally while senior Quintunya Chapman and sophomore Kendell Williams are holding down the No. 2 and No. 7 spots, in that order, in the heptathlon.
[su_spacer size=”40″] All four of Georgia’s multi-event athletes scored and were First Team All-Americans last year and Uibo and Williams are the defending NCAA champions.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia declared 32 team members for the 2014 East Prelims in Jacksonville, Fla., and had 15 advance. Thirteen individuals (six men, seven women) and two men’s relay teams moved on to the NCAA Championships in Oregon. Scantling, Uibo, Williams and Chapman all also qualified automatically for the final round of the NCAAs.
[su_spacer size=”40″] In 2014, the Bulldog women finished fifth with 35 points while the Georgia men were sixth with 24 points.
