UGA track & field thrower Beatrice Llano has been named the SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week following her performance at the Texas Relays.

Llano, a native of Bergen, Norway, becomes Georgia’s first conference outdoor weekly award winner following UGA’s second outdoor meet of the season.

Competing in her first outdoor meet as a Lady Bulldog, Llano posted an eye-catching series in the hammer throw that featured four throws measuring 215 feet or better (all would have been in top five nationally). The 2016 World Junior champion topped out at 218 feet, 4 inches on her fifth attempt to be the top collegiate finisher and second overall.

Llano stands third in the Georgia women’s record books with the top effort for the team since 2010. She leads the SEC and is ranked third overall nationally.

Georgia hosts the Spec Towns Invitational on Friday and Saturday and the Bulldog Decathlon/Heptathlon on Saturday and Sunday in Athens, Ga., at the Spec Towns Track. Llano is expected to throw the hammer following the men’s competition at 2 p.m. ET on Friday.
