[su_spacer size=”20″] Georgia’s Keturah Orji has been named the Southeastern Conference Women’s Freshman Field Athlete of the Year for track and field, according to a league announcement on Tuesday.
[su_spacer size=”40″] This marks the second year in a row a Lady Bulldog has earned this honor.  Kendell Williams won the SEC Outdoor Women’s Freshman Field Athlete of the Year for Georgia in 2014.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Orji, a native of Mount Olive, N.J., became one of only two competitors nationwide to advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., (June 10-13) in both the women’s triple and long jumps.  She won the triple (43 feet, 10 ¾ inches) at the NCAA East Prelims and was eighth in the long jump last weekend.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Orji is undefeated in the triple jump this season, starting with a school record of 45-2.25 at Spec Towns Invitational in early April.  She topped that record to win at the SEC Championships with an American Junior and meet record mark of 46-4.25, which is an NCAA leading effort, in mid May.  Orji was also third at SECs in the long jump (21-8.25) and set the UGA long jump record to win Spec Towns meet at 21-8.75.  Orji ended up bettering her long jump record to 21-9 at the Georgia Invitational a week before the SEC meet.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Orji will compete in the long jump at 8:15 p.m. ET on Thursday, June 11, at the University of Oregon.  She will return to compete in the triple jump at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 13 for the Lady Bulldogs.
