[su_spacer size=”20″] Three different Lady Bulldogs scored in double-digits as Georgia (2-1) cruised to a 78-66 victory against rival Georgia Tech (3-1) Sunday afternoon in Stegeman Coliseum.
[su_spacer size=”40″] UGA is now 34-4 all-time against the Yellow Jackets and a perfect 15-0 in games played in Athens. Merrit Hempe led the team with 22 points and 10 rebounds, Tiaria Griffin added 21 points of her own and Marjorie Butler scored a career-high 18 points in the win.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Lady Bulldogs nearly hit the half-century mark in the first half, taking a 48-30 lead into the break. Marjorie Butler drilled a three-point basket as time expired in the half. Georgia finished the first half shooting 50-perecent from the field while holding the Yellow Jackets to just 36.4-percent from the field.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia kept its foot on the gas in the second-half pushing its lead to 61-48 at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Bulldogs made a point of finding Hempe in the paint as the senior scored six points in the quarter. UGA’s defense caused Georgia Tech issues again holding the Yellow Jackets to just 36.8-percent shooting in the third quarter.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The fourth quarter was filled with more winning plays by the Bulldogs. Georgia ripped down several offensive rebounds and got to the free throw line numerous times late in to contest. UGA once again made it a point to get the ball in the paint and it showed as Hempe dropped eight more points in the quarter.
