The California Collegiate, the Coastal Plain and Northwoods Leagues have started their season while the Cape Cod, Great Lakes, New England and Valley Leagues will open in early June.
Shortstop Nick King was the first Bulldog to begin summer league action. King is batting .312 with five RBI and four stolen bases for the San Luis Obispo Blues who are off to a 4-0 start in the California Collegiate League. King, a native of Palm Springs, Calif., and centerfielder Stephen Wrenn were the only two Bulldogs to start all 54 games in 2015. Wrenn, a native of Marietta, is returning to the Cape Cod League and will be playing for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox.
Infielder Mike Bell and pitcher Heath Holder are teammates with the Lexington County Blowfish of the Coastal Plain League (CPL). They won their opener 5-1 against the Florence Red Wolves Tuesday night. Bell collected two walks, two stolen bases and scored two runs. Meanwhile, outfielder Skyler Weber and infielder/outfielder Mitchell Webb are teammates with the Peninsula Pilots (CPL). They dropped their opener 5-3 to the Wilson Tobs Tuesday. Weber registered a base hit and a stolen base while Webb notched a double. Catcher Aaron Rzucidlo made his debut with the Lakeshore Chinooks of the Northwoods League as they beat the Battle Creek Bombers 4-2 Tuesday night.
