[su_spacer size=”20″] Here IT is. “Georgia is going to come up with a heartbreaking loss or two that keeps it from finally turning the corner.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] IT has become part of the accepted truth among college football fans. No national article about the Dawgs is complete without mention of the conventional wisdom. Without delving into the implication of IT as a Richt Coaching Character Flaw, let’s take a look at the more reasonable, counter meme.
[su_spacer size=”40″] [su_quote style=”modern-light” cite=”CollegeFootballnews.com” url=”http://cfn.scout.com/2/1558569.html”] This year’s Bulldog team might not have anything special compared to past Richt squads, but someday all the right breaks have to go this program’s way.
[/su_quote] [su_spacer size=”40″] IT assumes some mystical predestination that dooms UGA to unexpectedly mediocre finishes.
[su_spacer size=”40″] [su_quote style=”modern-light” cite=”CollegeFootballnews.com” url=”http://cfn.scout.com/2/1558569.html”] But even though there’s enough in the bad to win the East, and even though the team should be just good enough to think about going go the playoff, it’s Georgia.
[/su_quote] [su_spacer size=”40″] How could they let slip the entirely reasonable idea that playing for an SEC (or national) championship requires winning them all (pretty tough in the SEC) or those elusive “breaks.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] There nothing so convenient as a meme to justify one’s opinions. Georgia is going to win ten games because “it’s Georgia”…no analysis necessary.
