The Bulldogs Fan day practice took place on Saturday, August 6th, and the fans got a second chance of viewing the Bulldogs under the new coaching staff. The fans were pleased by the big plays that were completed in the practice, but there were many interesting things happening behind the scenes.
 
 

One of the more interesting things to see today was the work that was done with the defensive line by Coach Rocker. The intriguing part of the defensive line was to see freshmen Michail Carter and David Marshall getting first-team work with Trenton Thompson and Daquan Hawkins. It has been reported continuously that the freshmen have impressed on the defensive line, but seeing these young guys get first-team work this early definitely points to them getting serious playing time this season.
 
 

 
 
Another member of the defensive line was seen at the practice for the first time this year, and that player was Jonathan Ledbetter. Ledbetter was seen for the most part doing one on one work on the side with another coach away from the other members of the defensive line. Ledbetter was expected to have a significant role on the defensive line this season but has had a few slip ups with the law.
 
 
Coach Smart’s primary concern with Ledbetter is getting him help to prevent him having any problems in the future. Ledbetter could still have a huge impact this season, but it will be delayed because of his two-game suspension. It is still encouraging to see him out in practice and getting in some work in preparation for the season
 
 
Two freshmen had impressive big plays in practice today that brought out a lot of cheers from the fans in the stands. The first big play came from Elijah Holyfield, who seemed to be caught at the line of scrimmage but made one cut and found a hole that led to a forty yard touch down run. A lot of fans are expecting big things from the freshmen back, and his success could very well begin this season.
 
 

 
 
The other freshman, who had a big play, was wide receiver Tyler Simmons. Simmons was thrown a ball in the corner of the end zone and was able to go up and snag it out of the air while also getting a foot down in bounds. Simmons is another player, who should have a lot of future success and could even see that success come this season.
 
 

 
 
The injury report for the Bulldogs has not changed thus far. We still saw running backs Shaquery Wilson and Sony Michel and cornerback Shattle Fenteng all doing light work and not competing in many standard drills. They should continue their light work into next week, but I would not be surprised to see both Fenteng and Wilson back to taking regular reps sometime next week.
 
 
The final interesting thing to see at practice was top wide receiver recruit Jeremiah Holloman from Newton high school in Covington, Georgia. Holloman’s presence is good for the Bulldogs as he draws closer and closer to a decision. Holloman would be a huge get for the Bulldogs and would be the big fish in the Bulldogs 2017 wide receiver class.
