One of the top running backs for 2018, Dameon Pierce, announced he was reopening up his recruitment and de-committed from Alabama. This begs the question of whether or not Georgia is a potential landing spot for the talented Peach State back.

Pierce was in Athens back on April 22nd on an unofficial visit to the University of Georgia for the Bulldogs’ annual G-Day spring football game with his mom Shameka Rogers and from all reports had an outstanding visit with Head Coach Kirby Smart and running backs coach Dell McGee. Not long after the G-day game, Pierce did an interview with DawgNation’s Jeff Sentell and had this to say about the visit to UGA.
“Pierce said he barely had much face time with both Smart and UGA running backs coach Dell McGee. The 4-star prospect said he still enjoyed it. He felt his mother Shameka Rogers really did, too. His mother would later go on to tell him that Georgia was her top school.”
The 5 foot 11 and 205 lbs running back has been toting the rock for the Bainbridge varsity high school football team the last three years and has amassed quite a resume. In those three seasons, Pierce has carried the ball 715 times for 4,656 yards and 60 rushing touchdowns according to MaxPreps. He’s also become more active as a receiver out of the backfield. As a junior last year, he hauled in 20 receptions for 248 yards and 1 touchdown.
All that hard work on the field has earned Pierce a solid four-star rating by 247, ESPN, Rivals, and Scout and he is considered top ten running back prospect for 2018. Still, though, would Pierce be willing to come join the Bulldogs’ talented backfield even with D’Andre Swift signing with Georgia in the 2017 recruiting class and with the expectation that the No. 1 back for 2018 in the country, Zamir White, is expected to also commit to UGA in June?
In his interview with DawgNation’s Jeff Sentell it did not appear to be a concern for Pierce:
“Pierce still feels UGA offers a better chance to play faster that what the Tide has stacked up. ‘Georgia is a great school and they would provide a running back there with great opportunities to go play at the next level,’ he (Pierce) said. ‘I also feel good about earning my degree from there.’ “
It also probably doesn’t hurt that Coach Smart grew up in Bainbridge, GA.
Another aspect of Georgia’s 2018 running back recruitment that we need to consider since Dameon Pierce’s visit to UGA back in April and his interview with Sentell, the Bulldogs have also caught the eye of three-star running back, Master Teague, who just released his list of the three schools that he will be making his final decision from; a list that includes Auburn, Tennessee, and Georgia. Would Pierce commit to UGA if both Teague and White also committed to the Bulldogs, and would the … can the Georgia coaching staff take three running backs in the 2018 recruiting class?
So far, Georgia has sent out offers to over 17 running backs, including Pierce, for 2018. Two is the most likely number of backs for UGA to take for 2018, but don’t be surprised, if there is room, for the Bulldogs to welcome Pierce, Teague, and White between the hedges. That would give Georgia a very loaded backfield of Brian Herrien, Elijah Holyfield, Dameon Pierce, D’Andre Swift, Master Teague, and Zamir White. A group that would rival any college football program in the country.
