Kirby Smart would “be open” to playing more than one quarterback in the season opener against North Carolina in the Georgia Dome, according to Brandon Adams of the AJC.
“I’d be open to that, but it’s not something that would be beneficial for the overall program,” Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart said Monday during a break from the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge golf tournament, where he was playing.
“I think you make that judgment (based on) how guys are playing during the game and the 28 practices prior to that,” he added.
Let’s hope that one of the three contenders, (Greyson Lambert, Brice Ramsey or Jacob Eason) can establish himself as the leader of the offense during summer workouts. A team with young starters on both the offensive and defensive lines is going to need a stable presence under center.
GPoole_BI sounds like a disaster in the making.
Bulldawg Bob2 Kirby should start the QB he believes give us the best chance of winning, no doubt. If the QB who was not good enough to start for Virginia but was good enough to start for the Dawgs throws an interception in the first game, fans will call for Kirby’s head.
Not suggesting it would be right, just that it will happen. It will also renew the calls that McGarity should have hired a proven head coach instead of a coordinator.
Bulldawg Bob2 Please don’t mention Joe Cox again.
Based on watching both Eric Zeier in 1991 and Matthew Stafford at Georgia in 2006, who both played as true freshmen and came in as early enrollees in January, it would not surprise if the coaching staff played more than 1 QB.
Zeier split time with Greg Talley for half the season and then Coach Goff gave number 10 the keys in the last six games.
In 2006, Coach Richt and Bobo played Joe Tereshinski III, Matthew Stafford and Joe Cox versus Western Kentucky to start the season, and the staff alternated the rotation of those 3 through at least the 8th game versus Mississippi State. From then on, it was pretty much the number 7 show.
@Guitarist True. They could, but those same fans could also scream bloody murder if he starts Eason, and “Skinny” throws 3 picks in the first half.
The coaching staff are going to start and play who they think gives them the best chance to win the game. That may or may not be Jacob Eason when the time comes for the game versus North Carolina
If Kirby starts a QB other than Eason, fans will mutiny.
I trust Kirby will make the right decision for the Dawg Nation. If it’s Lambert, that’s not an indictment on Eason—I hope everyone understands that. GATA!
