UGA track and field teams posted another flurry of solid performances to conclude the Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field on Saturday and make progress for the coming postseason.
 
 
“Today was another solid day with several personal and seasonal bests,” said Bulldog head coach Petros Kyprianou. “Our top moment today was Kendell Williams’ 12.97 in the hurdles and her (personal record) in the javelin. I’m also very proud of the 1500-meter crew as they battled a tough field and had an impressive showing. Ashinia Miller and Denzel Comenentia were solid in a terrific shot put competition and Raytez Jenkins had a nice personal best in the 200m into a negative wind, which puts him in a good spot heading into the postseason. All in all, this was a productive weekend and we will try and keep everyone healthy for one more home meet and then SECs and NCAAs.”
 
 
Junior Kendell Williams posted a pair of personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles and javelin as she works for another top-two finish in the heptathlon nationally. Williams ran a 12.97 for second-place honors in the hurdles, which is her fastest time in a collegiate competition since she set a heptathlon record with a 12.99 at the 2014 NCAA meet. Her 12.97 is ranked fourth on the national list and is the second-fastest time of her career behind her 12.87 at the 2014 USATF Championships.
 
 
Williams managed a fourth-place finish in the javelin after a fifth throw of 135 feet, 7 inches, which was eight feet longer than her previous personal record.
 
 
Also, three-time First Time All-American and 2013 NCAA javelin champion, senior Freya Jones, finished sixth in the javelin Invite with a top effort of 155-7 on only two throws before passing the next four rounds.
 
 
Kendell’s older brother, junior Devon Williams, posted an open event personal best of his own in the 110m hurdles. Williams finished third with a 14.15 after coming in with an open event personal record of 14.30.
 
 
In addition, senior Maicel Uibo continued his training as he prepares to defend this back-to-back NCAA decathlon titles and ran in the 110m hurdles on Saturday. He also recorded an open event career best with a 14.83 for 18th place.
 
 
Living up to his No. 4 national ranking, senior Ashinia Miller was the second collegiate finisher (third overall) in the shot put Invite with a mark of 64-5.75. This toss came on his third attempt.
 
 
Two spots behind Miller was true freshman Denzel Comenentia, who launched a personal record in the shot. Comenentia had a third throw of 62-9.25, which improves his No. 7 spot in the school record books and pushes him close to this year’s national top-10 list.
 
 
Sophomore Mady Fagan went over the high jump bar at 5-11.25 on her second attempt to win the Invite. This marks her second consecutive collegiate win of the season after she cleared a career-best height of 6-1.25 on Georgia’s home track in early April.
 
 
Junior Georgia Stefanidi managed a seventh-place finish in the pole vault Invite with the best performance of her career. Stefanidi crossed over the top of the bar at 13-1.50, which bettered her own No. 8 spot on the Lady Bulldogs’ top-10 list.
 
 
Launching five marks of 221-6 or better, junior Alex Poursanidis finished sixth in the hammer throw Invite with a sixth throw of 224-10. He and Comenentia still hover on the country’s top-10 list in the event.
 
 
On the track, sophomore Raytez Jenkins took off for the fastest finish of his career in the 200m with a 20.77 for third place (second collegiate finisher). In addition, junior Reggie Glover was ninth (21.18).
 
 
Matching his exact personal-best time from this year’s Georgia Relays, senior Zack Sims finished 29th in the 1500m after running a 3:47.77.
 
 
Senior Ashley Henry also had a top-five finish after running a 24.41 for fourth place in the 200m.
 
 
The Bulldogs will return to Athens for their final regular season meet of the year on April 30. The Georgia Invitational will start at the Spec Towns Track at 9:30 a.m.
