ATHENS – Georgia head coach Kirby Smart could not care less about his program’s remarkable No. 1 recruiting class – arguably the best in UGA history.
 
 
Instead, Smart is focused on the quality of players he and his staff brought in. 10 members of Georgia’s 2018 class enter the program with a core GPA at or above a 3.0. Three commits were offered scholarships by Ivy League schools and 25 of the 26 played multiple sports.
 
 
“That [ranking] does not float my boat or this staff’s boat,” Smart said of the ranking. “What’s more important is the quality of kids we’re able to get, both academically and athletically.”
 
 

 
 
One player who impressed Smart was Samuel Clemens High School (Texas) receiver Tommy Bush.
 
 
Bush, a 6-foot-5 receiver who ran track in high school, was a four-star recruit and the No. 37 receiver in the nation according to 247Sports. His combination of size and speed brings a new dynamic to the Bulldogs offense.
 
 
“I fell in love with Tommy the first time I met him,” Smart said. “I knew right away that he was a great kid. His stature is obviously a big thing for us with the success we were able to have with Javon [Wims] this year.”
 
“When you’ve got that much size and that much speed, you’re a pretty good football player,” Smart said.
 
 
Smart closed his press conference by calling on Georgia fans. After thanking them for their road turnout throughout 2017 (fans traveled in droves to Notre Dame, the Rose Bowl and CFP National Championship), Smart challenged fans to, yet again, sell out the G-Day spring game.
 
 
“We played a lot of games where our fan base turned out, and I think that really helped us with recruiting,” Smart said. “But now, G-Day is on Saturday, April 21. … We need our fan base to turn out April 21 at 4:00 and be out there for G-Day.”
