It’s a winner take all Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta after Georgia’s impressive 38-7 victory over arch-rival Tech. The Dawgs will face red-hot Auburn after the Tigers stout 26-14 victory over the Goliath of college football, Alabama.

It’s a second straight trip to Atlanta for the Bulldogs. The victory over Tech checked off another major box for Georgia. The Governor’s Cup/state championship is always a top priority for the Bulldogs, and this 31-point triumph was especially sweet after what happened in Athens last year, as the Jackets came back to break Georgia’s hearts 28-27.

From that loss and disappointment, the Bulldogs have used that fuel to generate an incredible regular season. Of the four teams that Georgia has played this season that beat the Bulldogs a year ago, the Bulldogs “vengeance tour” has been a destructive jaunt of joy for the Georgia people. The Bulldogs pulverized Tennessee 41-0 and Vanderbilt 45-14 on back to back trips to Knoxville and Nashville. Georgia crushed Florida 42-7 in Jacksonville, and with the 31-point triumph at Tech, that’s a cumulative 166-28 (average of 42.5-7.0) in the “payback” games.

Well, the lone blemish this season is to Auburn.

Trying to keep the “payback” theme going this season against the Tigers will be a much tougher chore. Many across the country feel that Auburn is right now the best team in college football. You can certainly make that case.

The Tigers 40-17 victory over then top-ranked Georgia is the first of two in a three-week stretch over rivals sitting atop the polls.

It is amazing that Auburn, following a heart-breaking 27-23 loss at LSU has responded and put itself in this position.

So these two ancient rivals, who have taken championships and glory from one another, experienced some of their most most memorable victories against the other, meet with all the chips in the middle of the table.
